Last week, the B-READY after-school program at St. Stephen’s celebrated its second annual Parent/Family Book Party with our partner reading organization Generations, Incorporated. Generations, which pairs older adults in the community with one-on-one focused reading tutoring twice a week, led twenty-five children in group and public reading with twelve of its Experience Corps members. Students in our elementary program took turns reading aloud in front of the entire group with their reading coach, as well as reading in small groups at their Cat In The Hat-decorated tables.
With an energy of achievement and excitement, all kids present were eager to show off their reading skills in front of their peers, their Generations, Inc. reading coaches , and the twelve parents and grandparents in attendance. As a result of this true collaboration between organizations, families, and commmunity members, our young people were able to take home 3 books each (donated by a partner church, Parish of the Epiphany Winchester ) and enjoy snacks provided by Trader Joes and Stop & Shop. A special thanks to Generations, Inc. for a wonderful party and their literacy support all during the school year! (You can learn more about Generations at www.generationsinc.org.)
